In recent times I have been thinking about a concept: when should you take action, and how this improves the quality of our lives. I'm of the idea that when you notice a problem, and you have the tools to solve it, you should try to solve it. But why?
I was walking by the street the other day when suddenly I noticed some trash lying on the floor. Now that I have noticed this, I can´t just go past that, because I know that I can fix it. There is some calling inside, a call to solve the problem and make the world a little bit better.
This was just a small example, but there will be times when these problems transcend your abilities. When this happens, you can avoid the problem for the moment. You just need to keep improving yourself so that, eventually, in the future you can be able to solve this sort of problem. When you are taking responsibility in your life, you develop new skills. Because of that you would able to take even more responsibilities, allowing you to spiral upwards.
If this is the case, why don't all the people just spiral upwards? I think that is because people are too afraid to get out of their comfort zone. It is easier to just keep doing the stuff that you always do; not fixing any problem that you notice. The problem with this orientation is that problems doesn't solve themselves, in fact if you ignore problems in your life can only grow. People don't feel the responsibility to answer the call of their consciousness. But why should you answer to that call?
That's because when something manifest inside of your head—when something bothers you or calls you, you should at least try to answer, investigate, and attend to it to see what is being asked from you, and if you can do it, why not?
I saved a quote from Don Quixote, where Sancho speaks out and tackles this point.
Don Quixote, who heard everything, said to him: —Are these discussions fitting, Sancho, for this place? — Sir, replied Sancho, each one must speak of his business wherever he may be; here I remembered the donkey, and here I spoke of it; and if I were to remember it in the stable, I would speak of it there.
-Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes
Here we can see a situation, when Sancho notices a problem, and speaks of it immediately, Don Quixote makes a complaint that this is not an appropriate time to speak about that. Sancho responds that since he remembered it there, he should speak of it there. I think the best approach is something in between. You should be aware of context; there would be times when it is not appropriate to solve a problem, but you can take note and solve it later. But if the conditions are met, I think that it is of extreme importance to solve the problem immediately.
If you fix the problems, you would be surprised on how rapidly your life can improve and how fast you evolve. You can start by fixing small things and grow in complexity as you improve as a person.
